The African American Allegory
A collection of paintings, books, and short stories, 2018
The collection represents the ruptured relationship many Black Americans have with their African heritage as a result of enslavement. Exploring this theme requires the audience to engage with the Irimaji, a fictional 10,000 year old ethnic group whose artifacts were recently uncovered by an archaeologist. The presentation of these artifacts and the historian's journal gives us insight into history, spirituality, language, and folk traditions of the Irimaji. Through this, we can reflect on its emotional connection to the African American experience.
